All entries to the Victorian Homelessness Media Awards must comply with eligibility guidelines. Entrants are encouraged to read the guidelines carefully.
Eligibility
1 / Entries must be published or broadcast during the period 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022.
2 / Entries across all media formats are eligible, including print, online, TV, radio, digital, and podcasts.
3 / Entries cannot be submitted to multiple categories. Entrants should read the category information carefully.
4 / Entries must be considered to be of interest to a Victorian audience and must be accessible to a Victorian audience.
5 / Entry is eligible to:
journalists, reporters, and producers working for Australian-based media outlets. or journalists, reporters, and producers working in Australia. This includes freelancers submitting work for Australian-based media outlets.
students who have been working towards a degree during the eligibility period and be in their second year or later of study.
6 / Owners or directors of media companies are not eligible to enter.
7 / To be eligible to enter the student / early career category, entrants must be either:
an early career journalist working in media or journalism for no longer than two years prior to the date their entry was published or broadcast
a student who has been working towards a degree during the eligibility period and be in their second year or later of study.
8 / Students are only permitted to enter the student / early career journalism category.
9 / Entry is open to journalists who have self-published, including blogs and other digital content such as podcasts.
10 / Joint or team entries are accepted, for example, entries with multiple by-lines, producers, or presenters.
11 / For the purposes of the Victorian Homelessness Media Awards, a journalist is someone who produces news or other content of interest to the public that is both intended for and accessible to the general public. A tertiary qualification in journalism is not a prerequisite.
Prizes
The winners of each category of the Victorian Homelessness Media Awards are presented with an award to commemorate their achievement, with a monetary prize for each category:
Best news journalism: $1000
Best feature journalism: $1000
Best regional / suburban journalism: $1000
Best student / early career journalism: $500
