Putting ideas into action.

More than 16,000 young people aged 15-24 sought help from Victorian homelessness services last year. More than 11,000 of them presented alone.

This April, Council to Homeless Persons is convening a one-of-a-kind conference bringing together lived experience experts, practitioners and decision-makers to collaboratively shape what a best practice youth homelessness system should look like in Victoria, and to recommend funding priorities to the Victorian Government.

We know the problem. We have the ideas to end it. Now it’s time to put ideas into action.

A landmark conference, for a key moment.

Despite the grim statistics, Victoria stands at a moment of opportunity. The Government has demonstrated its aspiration for positive change. And a sector-wide reform process is currently underway, co-designed by the sector through the Ministerial Homelessness Reform Advisory Group. The Victorian Youth Homelessness Assembly is designed to seize this moment to achieve action on developing a new Youth Homelessness Strategy for Victoria.

Over one and a half idea-packed days, we’ll hear about the best-practice principles, processes and programs that should comprise a modern youth homelessness strategy. And we will go further, collaboratively co-designing as a sector what that strategy should look like, so we can present a united statement to the Victorian Government about the sector’s priorities for youth homelessness reform and funding.

Program

The Victorian Youth Homelessness Assembly will facilitate a unique conversation that evolves through panels and then collaborative workshops to create a roadmap for change. And every voice will play an important part.

Day 1, Afternoon: EXPLORE

The Assembly kicks off with a packed afternoon of panels, presenting the best and freshest thinking about youth homelessness responses, along with discussion of flaws and gaps in the current system that we need to solve.

Day 1, Evening: SOCIAL RECEPTION

Join us for a gala reception at Government House, from 5:30 – 7:30pm on 29 April! Come together with other key stakeholders mix and connect, as we bring the message of youth housing and supports to one of Victoria’s most historic settings.

This exclusive event is available for Early Bird Registrants only! So book now!

Day 2, Morning: SHARE

On Day Two, the focus shifts to you, our Assembly participants! Across a morning of facilitated workshops, attendees focus on a range of subject areas to discuss how a best practice Youth Homelessness Strategy would respond to each issue. What does success look like? And what are the priority programs and responses that will get us there?

Day 2, Afternoon: FOCUS

On the final afternoon, participants will come back together as one Assembly to reflect on the morning’s discussions and hear the next steps to distill workshop outcomes into a statement to Government.
