#EveryHomeIsAFuture
Join a community movement to end homelessness in Victoria
As the next state election approaches, join a community movement calling on all political parties to commit to real action to end homelessness in Victoria.
We know the solutions to end homelessness. Now it’s time for government to back them.
Because every home is a future. And every Victorian deserves a future that is safe and dignified.
We can make that future a reality. Together.
Did you know…?
- Most people seeking homelessness assistance in Victoria are women (58%).
- Family violence is the Number 1 cause of homelessness.
- More than one-third of people seeking homelessness assistance in Victoria are children or young people.
- The number of employed Victorians seeking homelessness assistance has increased 23.5% in the past 5 years.
- The average life expectancy of a person experiencing homelessness in Victoria is just 44.
- Victoria has the lowest proportion of social housing in Australia.
- Infrastructure Victoria has recommended the Victorian Government build 4,000 new social homes per year for the next 15 years.
Our 3 asks to end homelessness
Every home is a future. And we can assure that future for tens of thousands of Victorians through 3 key areas of investment:
1. More prevention programs
Prevention programs are incredibly effective and cost efficient. We can stop homelessness before it begins with more funding for rental protection programs like the Private Rental Assistance Program, and early intervention approaches in schools, prisons and other key partners.
2. Better crisis responses
Support Victorians when they’re most in need with more specialised crisis accommodation; more assertive outreach to connect rough sleepers with solutions; and more Housing First programs to support them on a path to long-term stability.
3. Build more social housing
The State Government’s own infrastructure adviser says the government can and should be building 4000 new social homes each year for the next 15 years. So let’s get started.
See the exhibition. Join the conversation.
Many people associate homelessness with male rough sleepers. But nearly 60% of people coming to Victorian homelessness services last year were women. And the number one reason people need homelessness assistance is because they are leaving family violence.
From October 2025 – October 2026, we’re inviting communities across Victoria to join us to learn more about the hidden face of homelessness at the Walk In Her Shoes exhibition.
This touring, immersive exhibition tells the story of three women who experienced homelessness at different stages of life – as a youth, as a mother, and as an older Victorian – and the responses that gave them the safety and security to rebuild their lives.
A local forum at each stop on the tour will bring together the community with homelessness practitioners, people with lived experience of homelessness, and state and local politicians. It’s your opportunity to ask your questions and call for change, as we lay a foundation for future local action.
Coming to a community near you…
The Walk In Her Shoes exhibition and local forum is coming to nearly a dozen suburbs and towns across Victoria. Look out for more details soon!
